Freeze Dryer Pakistan: Food Factory Procurement Guide

For a freeze dryer project in Pakistan, a food processor should start with the product and production target, then compare equipment, site requirements and the complete purchasing scope. A household listing, laboratory sample or nominal tray area does not establish factory output. A usable quotation must be tied to a defined product, load, batch schedule and acceptance test.
This guide addresses commercial and industrial food projects. It helps Pakistan-based buyers prepare an equipment request and an importer review; it does not describe a local installation, office or service network. Detailed capacity calculations, prices and validation procedures are covered in the linked technical guides.
First Confirm the Equipment Class
Broad equipment searches often mix home food-preservation appliances, laboratory lyophilizers, pilot systems and production machines. Buyers should verify what process the offered machine performs and what evidence supports its capacity. A product label alone is an inadequate basis for a food-factory investment.
A conventional food freeze dryer combines freezing, reduced-pressure drying, heat input and water-vapor capture. Its performance depends on coupled heat and mass transfer. Ratti’s food-powder chapter also explains why laboratory and commercial equipment differences can change product temperature during scale-up; a successful sample is therefore a starting point for verification, not a production guarantee. [1]
| Project purpose | Evidence to request | Relevant starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Product development | Controlled preparation, loading and cycle records; agreed final quality. | Food R&D and pilot testing |
| Repeatable commercial batches | Saleable output from a defined wet load and complete batch schedule. | Commercial equipment range |
| Factory-scale integration | Water-removal duty, utilities, handling, turnaround and acceptance responsibilities. | Industrial equipment range |
Prepare One Product-Specific RFQ
Suppliers can only be compared fairly when they receive the same production basis. The request for quotation should identify the material as it enters the dryer, the required finished product and the work schedule. Fruit slices, cooked meals and liquid ingredients should not share an unexplained generic capacity assumption.
- Product: material identity, preparation, cut size or fill depth, and any relevant composition constraints.
- Output: wet-input target, intended finished output and operating schedule.
- Quality: final moisture or water-activity specification, appearance, texture or rehydration requirement, and packaging plan.
- Site: destination, available power and cooling, access, floor layout, and handling limitations.
- Supply boundary: equipment, accessories, packing, freight, installation, training, spares and documented support.
The quotation should distinguish wet input per batch, finished output, water to be removed and daily production. Loading, unloading, defrosting and cleaning must also be factored into the schedule. The batch-capacity guide explains those definitions; the total-cost guide helps keep equipment price separate from the installed project scope.
An Engineering Case Is Evidence, Not a Local Guarantee
The company’s published China apple case identifies an SDG700 system and the following reported conditions. It is a 2022 China record, not a Pakistan installation or an independently certified performance test. [3]
| Reported item | Case value | Procurement implication |
|---|---|---|
| Equipment and drying area | SDG700; 20 m² | Identify the actual equipment and usable load basis. |
| Apple-slice thickness | 8 mm | Retain the product geometry in the trial specification. |
| Loading density and batch load | 12.7 kg/m²; approximately 254 kg/batch | Do not transfer this loading to another product without testing. |
| Reported drying time | 12 hours | This is not the complete loading, defrosting and cleaning turnaround. |
| Final moisture | 1.97% | Agree the planned product’s own release specification and measurement method. |
The case gives a buyer concrete questions for a representative trial. It does not establish the cycle, daily output or final moisture for a different raw material, preparation, machine or site. These values must remain attached to the identified apple case.
Define Factory Interfaces Before Ordering
Site compatibility should be resolved from the actual factory and proposed machine, rather than assumed from the destination country. The supplier should provide the equipment load list, electrical specification, cooling requirements, layout, dimensions, weight and agreed ambient design conditions. The buyer should confirm the available services and delivery access.
| Interface | Written confirmation |
|---|---|
| Power and controls | Supply specification, connected loads, protection responsibilities and safe shutdown/restart procedure. |
| Cooling and drainage | Required cooling arrangement, design conditions, defrost handling and drainage scope. |
| Building and handling | Access route, unloading, clearances, service space and product-loading method. |
| Operating records | Recorded process variables, alarms, recipe access and batch-data retention. |
| Support | Installation and training responsibilities, remote or on-site scope, recommended spares and written warranty terms. |
No local engineer, parts stock or response time should be assumed from a quotation’s shipping destination. Those services require an explicit written scope. The setup guide provides the wider plant-preparation checklist.
Prepare the Pakistan Import Review
Pakistan Single Window provides a Single Declaration–Imports workflow for imported-cargo clearance. The Federal Board of Revenue publishes the Pakistan Customs Tariff through its official portal. These are starting points for the importer’s review, not evidence that a particular dryer has a fixed duty rate, exemption or automatic approval. [4] [5]
Before payment, the importer and customs adviser should verify the applicable classification, current charges and any relevant approval requirements against the actual equipment configuration. This guide does not assign an HS/PCT code or estimate Pakistan taxes.
A practical commercial document pack should let the importer reconcile the quotation with the shipment. Request clear supplier and origin details, an equipment description, configuration and accessories, invoice and packing information, dimensions and weights, and the agreed freight and insurance boundary. This is a preparation checklist, not a universal statutory list of documents.
The contract should also identify who arranges inland transport, unloading, site work and commissioning. A machine quotation and a delivered, operating food-production project are different purchasing scopes; comparing them as if they were identical can hide exclusions.
Agree Product Acceptance Before Dispatch
An acceptance plan should define the representative product, preparation, loading arrangement, process records and final quality checks. It should also state who samples the product, how results are measured and what happens when the agreed criteria are not met. Repeatability targets belong in the agreement, rather than being inferred from one attractive sample.
Khalloufi and Ratti studied strawberries and apple and pear slices under specified laboratory freezing and drying conditions. The products showed different quality responses. That finding supports product-specific acceptance criteria; it does not supply a universal temperature, cycle or commercial performance rating. [2]
Include the intended packaging and storage assessment in product development. Equipment delivery, a dry surface or an appealing sample does not by itself validate finished-product safety or shelf life. The food freeze-dryer FAT/SAT guide covers acceptance in more detail, while the packaging guide keeps the finished product’s handling requirements visible.
Prepare a Pakistan delivery-scope record
Record open questions before comparing prices. The supplier, importer and site team should identify which party owns each item, and distinguish confirmed scope from assumptions.
- Product and quote identity
- Food, prepared load and quality target; quoted model/configuration and quote version
- Importer review
- Appointed importer/adviser; actual classification, current charges and approval questions to verify
- Shipment records
- Equipment/accessory description; origin; invoice/packing details; dimensions and weight to reconcile
- Delivery and site work
- Freight, insurance, clearance, inland delivery, unloading, utilities and installation boundaries
- Evidence and closure
- Requested test/document; responsible party; received/pending status; agreed action before payment or dispatch
This is a commercial preparation worksheet, not a universal customs-document list, tax calculation or claim of local installation support.
Copy the completed notes into the message field on the project enquiry page. Information entered here is not submitted or stored by this worksheet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a home or laboratory listing establish factory capacity?
No. A processor needs evidence for the intended product, loading and complete batch schedule. A trial system can support development, but production output still requires a defined equipment and process basis.
Is there one freeze-dryer price in Pakistan?
No single figure represents every configuration and purchasing scope. Compare equipment, accessories, freight, import-related costs, site work and support separately. A current project quotation and importer review are more useful than an unsupported headline price.
Does an overseas case prove results for a Pakistan project?
No. An identified case is useful evidence within its reported product and operating conditions. The planned raw material, load, utilities and acceptance criteria still need verification; the destination does not make a different project equivalent.
